News and Information

The Ireland & UK Branch of the IAIA in partnership with the UK Government’s Met Office is holding a 1-day Conference on: Climate Change Adaptation Strategies and their incorporation in Impact Assessments

The event will be held at the headquarters of the UK Government’s Met Office in Exeter from 9am – 4pm on Thursday the 8th October 2009. During the lunch break delegates will have the opportunity to take a tour of the Met Office headquarters and learn more about how their work both in relation to climate change and the science behind the weather (further information on the Met Office can be found at: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/

The conference, kindly sponsored by Golder Associates (www.golder.com), is designed for those working or involved in impact assessment (e.g. EIA, SEA, SA, HIA, etc) and will provide the latest thinking and advice on how to consider climate change adaptation in the impact assessment process. The conference programme (see link below) is split into three sessions providing delegates with views from a Government, Professional, and Practitioner perspective. Each session is designed to provide up-to-date information and guidance and then allow delegates to ask question and briefly debate the key issues that arise. Delegates will leave with a greater knowledge of the Government’s advice on climate change adaptation and how as professionals we can consider this issue in our impact assessments as well as having gained an understanding from case studies where practitioners have already acted to consider climate change adaptation within their Impact Assessment processes.

This 1-day Conference has a limited capacity of 45 delegates and is aimed at all those involved in Impact Assessments, including:

  • Environmental Consultants,
  • Planners (Local Authority and consultants),
  • Developers,
  • Statutory Consultees, and
  • Other parties interested in understanding more about how plan-making and project planning can take better account of our changing climate.

Tickets for the Conference are priced @:
