How are we "doing" gender? Crowdsourcing our experiences and tools, Oxfam's gender impact assessment guide

  • Presenter(s): Maria Ezpeleta, Socheata Sim, Ian Thomson

    Recorded: 06 NOV 2019

This practical webinar will help impact assessment practitioners, project proponents, and regulators who want to learn more about bringing strong gender analysis into their work. Oxfam staff from North America and South East Asia introduced Oxfam's gender impact assessment (GIA) guide and shared experiences with field-testing it at hydropower and mining projects in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The GIA tool is publicly available and involves strong community engagement exercises to establish baselines and develop action plans to address adverse gender impacts. Following the Oxfam presentation, participants were invited to share their own experiences or challenges in integrating gender into their work.

Presenters: Maria Ezpeleta is the senior gender advisor for Oxfam America's extractive industries program, based in Boston, USA.  Socheata Sim is a water governance project manager at Oxfam in Cambodia, based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Ian Thomson is a policy specialist on extractive industries at Oxfam Canada, based in Ottawa, Canada.
